While not a drug-tested show, the NPC Master's Nationals had to "create" a class for competitor Karl Marshall who turned 80 this year. According to the promoter, Karl had competed successfully thru his 70's and called him (the promoter, Gary Udit) to let him know that even though he turned 80, he still had the urge to compete.

Pretty amazing and should be interesting to see if the master's classes don't all start seeing older competitors. Our own Scott Hults (Old Navy) just won an open lightweight class and a 4th pro card at 66!

Maybe bodybuilding is the fountain of youth after all? Certainly a healthy lifestyle is a major factor!

Perhaps it is, at the very least, it does prolong muscle and bone density, natural production of growth hormone, and general feelings of well being far beyond the waning years of the sedentary public.
