I am almost 39 years old now, and just seeing how much I can "max" on the bench has lost some appeal. I recently set a goal of 20x20x20... That is:
20 reps at 225 on the bench
20 reps of 315 on the squats
20 reps of 405 on the deadlifts

I planned on putting a video on youtube when I reached the goal. I had the bench no worries. Squats was there and deads was at 17 reps. Then I hurt my back and I am on half speed for a few weeks... we'll see what happens when I am back to 100%.

Any of you guys here ever set goals like this? Ya gotta keep it fun, right?

Hey Chris, i've seen a few of your vids on youtube already. Just out of curiosity, what types of injuries have you had? (if any).

cheers

I like that approach and have tried variations of it on several occasions.
Its amazing how much you can do when you set a short term goal to do several movements back to back,,,, and then collapse on the floor like a beached whale.

After one such session I was laying on my chest on the floor hyperventilating when I realized that I was honestly not able to move my arms. Can't tell you how weird that felt,, but my face was on the floor, chest heaving and I couldn't move either arm at all. Felt pretty vulnerable for a moment,,,,

re: injuries... I do a lot of warm ups, more than the average person, and I stretch. I do get hurt from time to time, mostly a tewak in my shoulder and one spot on my lower back that is always the same exact spot.

kerry - Your story, my stupid goals, I guess that is what makes "us" the type of people we are.

Not really sure if stupid is the word for it,,, but some of us do seem to push ourselves a little further then perhaps we should. Still,,,,, its nice to know what you are capable of. So many others will never know that feeling.

Chris,

when you say shoulder tweak (assuming you meant tweak) is that like an electrical sensation in your shoulder, like a quick tight pinch etc..? that's not the pain i have in my shoulder, but i've got that exact sensation in my upper mid back, especially when doing heavy dumbell side laterals..

I'm thinking about eventually finding some kind of sports doctor to put all my issues on the table lol. I really enjoy bodybuilding and it sucks that i've been out because of sickness
cheers
