Hey whats up guys. I am doing my first show in june with the OCB, and I went to the NPC natural last weekend in Wa to see how it all went down, and I think at least 5 guys were juicing. It freaked me out. Has anyone else had an experience like this. I do not want to compete with gear heads. I allready feel small enough working out by them in the gym.

Hello Aec and welcome to the board.

Tough to comment without having actually been there.

In my experience, the OCB is well run and serious about drug testing.
I don't blame you for not wanting to compete against people on gear, it just isn’t a level playing field.
How was testing done at this show?

After reading your post again, I now realize that you were speaking about 2 different events.
My bad!

About 15% of NPC shows are touted as "natural", however most employ random test. This means that not all athletes are tested and some of the top placers may not be tested at all.

Please post a bit more about you experience at this event.

Thanks,

Well I went to the event to see bodybuilding. I wanted to see how different people did different poses. For example, do ectos with good legs stick out a leg in the double bicep pose during mandatorys (you get the point). However, the BB only lasted about 1 hour and I was there for 5 hours! I got stuck watching 4 hours of figure chicks! I wanted my money back after that show. I have pics if you want to see.

Also, I have been coming to this sight for many months. I respect what you represent, and I was wandering if I could get some help on my competition prep. I am 8 weeks out and need advice. I could post pics, diet, sups ext.:help:

It is disheartening to imagine people competing in tested shows if they are training otherwise. There are plenty of shows for them to choose from.

At Team Universe, all competitors are polygraphed and a urinalysis is conducted on the top 2 finishers of each weight class, because the winners of the classes qualify to represent the US at the IFBB World Championships which is IOC tested. As you can see here from the IFBB Worlds, several competitors were disqualified for failing the urinalysis and it is posted as such.

It is hard to control what other competitors perhaps may choose to do, but just to continue stand firm on the reasons for competing and continue to train hard and enjoy the results of those efforts.

Isn't that only one-year drug free?? That's not really drug free in my opinion.

Wow, this is a difficult one.

I know that the IFBB was serious about gaining Olympic recognition for the sport of bodybuilding, and as such, IOC / WADA drug testing standards were mandatory. From what I have read thus far, WADA standards are only in place at international amateur events. To the best of my knowledge, the only testing that goes on in the professional ranks of the IFBB is for diuretics and not anabolics.

Regarding testing at the amateur level, I believe that testing is random. As to the time that an athlete must be "drug free", I haven't found it on their site.

I noted from the link that Skipper posted, that several top ranking athletes were disqualified, unless "DQ" means Dairy Queen.

Cytrainer, you are correct in the one year time period. They do ask us that in the polygraph for the one year time frame. Though I did not say "Natural" for Team U, as a drug tested contest, yes, I am implying that it is a "natural" contest. I do have to stand with you on this one as far as a term of correctness in a description.

I choose (and enjoy) competing in the NPC for a host of reasons, but that is the tested option given to us at the National level.

For the person that trains for and is wanting to make a definite statement to their peers and take a stand on issues of natural bodybuilding, the NPC as it stands, gives that person few tools to work with to support them in making that definite statement. I won't argue with that!

With that said, I will clearly state that Team Universe is a drug tested contest and those that fail any part of the test, to my knowledge, are disqualified.
