................CANTALOUP!

I'm finally catchin on.....

what a find.

see, while it is expensive to eat like a BB'er, it's not expensive to eat healthy, even if one lifts weights and lifts HARD. The real secret is proper rest.

see things are starting to come along, I'm a poor bastard that breaks his back for a buck, I've damn near starved before.

with proper rest I can now buy the good whole wheat bread, and cantaloup is only $2 I load up and eat a tupperware full of it everyday!

.....and my energy levels are through the roof!
longs rests help here also, since I dont' eat much.

eggs-$2 (18paks on deals)
bread $2
pasta $2
cantaloup $2
PB $2
bannas $1.50

11.50 geez that lasts most of the week, a meal at the fast food joint is half that (and thats 1-meal dang day).

I agree,,, Cantalout (and Watermellon) is low fat, sweet and filling. Both are very refreshing on a hot day and a great substitute to more fattening treats.

I eat 30 bananas a day, 1 ibs of spinach, some dates and berries, maybe some mangos, and/or watermelon for snacks. Then for dinner I have a large salad with rice or potatoes added for additional calories. I probably don't need that much food (between 4 and 5000 cals/day), but even still I can add in additional food for my wife and kids and usually get out the store for under $130/week. If god forbid I cut back on the fruit I could keep up the cals with rice for even cheaper. A bag of rice has more than 10,000 cals for less than a dollar.

30 bananas,,, did you say 30 bananas a day?
Wow,, I can't imagine. Is that somewhat common for a vegan?

You read that correctly. I follow the 80/10/10 diet (Doug Graham), which is a fruit based raw vegan diet. It does not recommend 30 bananas/day exactly, but from an expense aspect it's cheaper to buy a lot of one fruit than it is to buy a variety of different fruits. So I make 3 really big smoothies with different kinds of berries and greens added in. And then I have my one really big salad in the evening for dinner.

There is a web-site called 30bad (bananas a day). But they get 30 based on calories. One banana is 100 calories, and they generally recommend men get at least 3000 cals/day, and women get 2500. Hence 30. Other than the folks on that site I don't really know what other vegans do, I don't know that many.

It's not for everyone, but I've been doing it for over six months now and I can literally eat as much as I want/can without ever putting on fat. I haven't had so much as a cold in all that time, and I just make sure I check my minerals/vitamins every now and then on "cronometer.com" to make sure I'm getting my needs taken care off.

"We break our backs at the gym, sweating, struggling, grunting and straining against the weight in order to make what we see in the mirror reflect what we see within ourselves. No, it's not safe, you run the risk of dangerous levels of awesomeness.

J/K, It's safe as far as I know. A few people have asked me about "potassium overdose", but you would have to eat like 400 bananas in 30 seconds to get to a lethal amount of potassium. One important thing is to always eat ripe fruit. So for bananas they should have brown spots on them. Then they will be an excellent source of soluble fiber, they are digested quickly and burned as energy and they satisfy the sweet tooth.

One thing that I personally think is important is that for all the sweet fruits I eat I try to eat a comparably larger amount of greens (spinach, Kale, Chard, lettuce, dandelion roots) I eat about 1.5 pounds of greens everyday.
