Alleged disorders that lack in empirical evidence should not be validated, as is the case with ADHD and ODD. It is reflective of the fact that we have become a people of excuses and cop outs. Its a brilliant scheme on the part of the medical history. Anyone who has seen firsthand the children diagnosed and the effects that the medicine has on them knows the pain that comes with this bogus disorder. Only brilliant and inventive minds could concoct such an absurdity as to deceive a large population of people into wasting their case on such a ridiculous notion

Drugs should be a last resort for any problem. But sometimes they are necessary. I too believe ADHD and many other disorders are over diagnosed and/or quick to receive a drug to cure them. So I say try diet and health changes, and maybe some counseling before drugs as a last resort. Even then be skeptical, it is true that the pharmaceutical companies can tend to be run by profit motive. They don't make a lot of drugs that could help people in third world countries because it wouldn't be profitable. It is sad but true. No one knows your child, and therefore no one knows if you made the right decision. But if you keep an open mind, and believe you are doing the right thing by having to resort to a drug, then good on you.

you're an idiot, the fact of the matter is that adderall is like legal cocaine, but has an even worse effect on the body (look it up before you try to argue that) If you want to have cracked out children, that's on you. I would much prefer fixing these problems with exercise, a healthy diet, and teaching my children to work through their problems (not disorder)indepe ndently, without taking amphetamines...

You should be ashamed for posting this bogus article with an interview from one guy who claims he knows more than all the physicians in all the physicians' associations. Yea, of course thousands of doctors are all in a secret conspiracy with the thousands of people in the drug companies. And I have a lovely tinfoil hat for you. Note to the wise: anybody who flies against the bulk of medical science is a nutjob and should be ignored.

Too what extent have you "helped" your son overcome his struggles? You describe a frustrated 5 year old child as if he has an understanding of his shortcomings which to me displays a very high intellect. Please take this as my opinion and not an attack, but from what I read from your statement is that you were the one that has given up. The child is only 5 years of age and with each passing day will only grow and further his ability to control his will. With your guidance as a parent would help him understand how and when to control that will. Why then would you hamper his own development with a drug? When science proves whether or not ADHD exists; I would still never recommend a parent to display to their children the lesson of, "when you fail; turn to drugs and all your problems will go away." Please think about that and what your child may have learned from this experience.

ADHD does exist, however, it is extremely overdiagnosed. There are lazy parents who have out of control kids, it is not the bad parenting, its the "ADHD". Schools have a highly imaginative and bubly child and say their not just being a kid, they have "ADHD". There are some cases that have credibility to this disorder. I have a son who was diagnosed by a team of doctors with having ADHD, after trying behavior modification, I decided to use medication. Something I said I would never do, but when you see you child try so hard and struggle to the point of frustration. My son was left feeling defeated at 5 years old. I tried to help him with many different techniques, to no avail. I tried the medication and now he does amazing and does it with ease. There ought to be better diagnostic tools to use than just a piece of paper that a parent and teacher fills out. It took a team of 5 doctors and specialists two weeks to diagnose my son properly, not two pieces of paper.
