Currently working on a site/software upgrade and a completely new look and feel to the site. Lots of work,,, going to take awhile but should be worth the effort.
I've always been into fitness however I noticed that I was drinking too much and too often at the age of 39. I quit cold turkey and began weight training 3 times a day (extreme) as a means of transferring one obsession to another. After awhile I modified my training into once a day and got my diet under control. Before long people began to ask if I competed. After I heard this enough, I thought, "why not?".
I did my first competition at the age of 41 and won my class.
This launched me into several additional competitions which were eventually curtailed by a string of injuries which has curtailed my heavy lifting.
Oh well, its been a great ride which I continue to enjoy.
What Motivates Me
Seeing people who are out of shape at any age.
Goals
Improve cardio (spend far too much time in front of the computer). Drop about 5% bf.
Accomplishments
Began competitive bodybuilding at age 41. Won several events and then began training in full contact fighting under UFC legend Dan "The Beast" Severn.

Someone at the health food store today highly recommended Maca powder as an additive to smoothie for an energy boost. Considering that I have never used maca before I bought the sales pitch.
I see that this is used for energy, libido and performance enhancement. I was just interested in the energy boost,,, which is why I haven't tried it today,, want to be able to sleep tonight.
So,,, if you have used Maca powder I would truly like to hear of your experience with it.
If you haven't seen it yet,,, I was amazed by the creative body art by young Japanese artist Hikaru Cho.
Hikaru was kind enough to allow us to feature some of her work here at Lift for Life.

After a long delay we've finally started a Facebook page for the Lift for Life site. Frankly I just didn't know how I would have time to maintain a Facebook presence however it seems that some software will make this much easier.
I've been using the borax for just under a week now with little to report thus far. Then again,,, the arthritis in my lower back isn't all that bad and what little pain I do have may be related to squats,, so tough to tell.
Will stay with the regimen for about a month to fully explore.
I've done a lot of research for alternative therapies for arthritis and just came across something very interesting.
First let me say that I believe very strongly that is an effective and inexpensive treatment for arthritis (or most other aliments for that matter) were available,,, it would be suppressed and even vilified by the pharmaceutical industry.
For example,,, raw apple cider vinegar has lowered my blood pressure without the use of prescription medication.
Now,,, it seems that all prescribed medications for arthritis are intended to treat the symptoms only,,, not the cause. Additionally,,, each of the standard medications is accompanied by a host of negative side effects and you have to ask yourself,,,, which is worse,, the condition or the treatment.
So,,, I'm always looking for a natural alternative that will treat both the symptom and the cause. Which led me to the topic of Borax.
Yes,,, Borax,,, this is the same as the "20 Mule Team" cleaner that you can find in the laundry isle of most supermarkets.
Pasted below is a link to an article,, but as in all things,, I strongly encourage you to do your own research. After all,,, YOU are responsible for your health,, no one els,, you! http://nexusmagazine.co.nz/resources/1904borax.pdf
So,,, considering that I have arthritis in my lower back I've decided to give this a shot. The test dosage is 1/4 teaspoon in a quart of water sipped throughout the day.
This is day 2. What I've noted so far,,, is a stronger sex drive. Could be coincidental,, but I doubt it as boron (from the borax) will increase free testosterone.
Too soon to tell if this will truly be effective in treating the arthritis (which is not a bad case),, but I will update this thread as the test progresses.
D-Aspartic acid is an amino acid which has an effect on the release of testosterone in humans (and in rats,,,). Below is a link to one of many studies on the effects of D-Aspartic acid on testosterone and LH (Lutenizing hormone)

After reading many positive reviews and checking out the literature I've decided to give this one a try. Over the years I've tested a few other natural test boosters with negligible effects but have to admit that so far I am impressed with this product.
I purchased 300 grams of bulk d-aspartic powder by AI Sports and am taking 3 grams twice a day. The result is that I can feel a slight increase in drive (and libido) within half an hour of using the product. Libido has never been an issue but I do deal with frequent depression and felt that I needed a little spark to help me out of the slump and also give a bit more energy in the gym.
Too early yet to say if I'll continue to use this product but so far I'm impressed.

Tim,,, sorry for the lost post. Due to complications in the software update I had to restore a backup. The update was necessary but definitely more work than I had expected. I've been preparing for several months to get ready including testing on a local server but still should have expected a few bugs to iron out. Everything seems to be working now.
Please let me know if you have any issues with the site.
