Hi! Just saw this topic and I wanted to add that Ive been running in them for over two years now, exclusively. Before that I used cross country and racing flats to run in. Ease in slowly if you're new to it, but once you're used to them you'll hopefully find them to be lots of fun and great for strengthening your feet and lower legs. Read More...
"you'll adapt and have a very long lifespan on whatever diet you choose." - well I certainly didn't mean that, I mean't that people can adapt to many different diets depending on where they live and what's available.
Not all lectins are destroyed when some beans are cooked - maybe my use of the word poisonous was harsh, I'll grant you that. I don't think anyone's gonna be scared off of eating beans if they like them and they tolerate them well. Heck refried black beans are darn yummy. Read More...
I had NO idea there was a men's physique division...Board shorts? OMG that is just so strange. It is a confusing time in BB! Nevertheless, I'd like to be part of the solution!
I totally agree with everything you said - especially the no heels part. Keep us updated on how you do at contest!
Thanks so much for the encouragement. I am lifting heavy to gain strength. I also love throwing in some kettlebells too. I have a base from Triathlon/Cycling/Running competition and a dance background so at least I'm not starting out from ground zero. This morning I was so happy to see some definite progress in the delts - it made me smile! Read More...
I thought I'd throw in my two cents on the paleo thing because I tried it out for awhile. I'd say that I've settled into a kind of modified paleo in a way, but really when you look at it paleo is not that dissimilar from a bodybuilders diet...
Although it depends on which paleo you are talking about.
Mark's Daily Apple (google it) has some very interesing info on the subject and quite a few people have found success on his plan. Personally, it had no effect on my body either way. I had hoped to loose fat but nothing happened. I think that some people who are really addicted to carbs like processed foods/bread find great success on his plan. I do not have this problem, I really don't like bread. Personally I think his eating plan has way too much fat in it. I don't think paleolithic people really ate that much fat - it's a high energy source that was relatively hard to come by. Wild animals are not nearly as fatty as our domestic ones...and hunting is difficult - so I really don't believe in the loads of fat idea. It's kinda scary actually.
Loren Cordain was one of the first researchers to espouse paleo eating. I tend to lean more in his direction - lean meats & vegetables making up the bulk of the diet. Sounds pretty similar to standard bodybuilding right?
Anyway, I'd love to hear if anyone else has had sucess with paleo or is trying it out now...
Thanks guys! And yes, I do lift as heavy as I can. I like it. And I'm not one of those gals whose afraid of getting big. I want to be naturally muscular and cut.
My legs are already pretty muscular and defined, back in my bike racing days my nickname was Quadzilla. I'm concentrating on my delts, biceps/triceps, lats and abs. To get a 6-pack would be awesome! Read More...
I just joined up here because I've liked what I've seen so far and I've been looking for some like minded folk.
I've always been athletic, starting as a classical ballet dancer in my youth (semi-pro). Then when I went to college I got into running which led to competitive cycling and triathlon. I most recently competed in Ultras (running races over the marathon distance). Now that can burn you out.
I felt I was running myself ragged rather than getting more fit. I've done weights on and off through the years, but now I think it's time to concentrate on them more and build a strong healthy and beautiful body. I love the look of natural female bodybuilders, so I guess that's my ideal.
I work out 5-7 days a week. 5-7 days a week of cardio (running with my pal in my avatar) and I lift weights 3-4 times a week.
