I have competed as a natural bodybuilder for 3 years now. I was 45 years old at my first show.. I am 5' 0" about 99lbs contest, 112lbs off season. I work as a gym manager at the Powerhouse Gym in Brunswick, Georgia - leaving a career in healthcare with my local hospital after nearly 24 years!!

My first event in 2007, was the INBF Iron Eagle. I placed 2nd, followed a few weeks later by the OCB Core Nutritionals Natural, winning the overall and my IFPA Pro Card.

Last year, I entered and won the Women's Masters 35+, and Women's Open Bodybuilding Overall at the 2008 OCB Spirit of America, and then in May 2008, I entered (and placed 4th) in my first professional event at the IFPA Pro-Bowl in RIchmond Virginia.

After the experience of my first professional contest, I set my sights on the Yorton Pro worlds which will be held in just a couple of weeks (Nov 13-14) outside Washington DC. I volunteered last year as an expiditor with my friend and fellow competitor Kalvin Brooks (seen in pic) to learn all I could about this international level event. Also, The judges from my 2008 contests left me with valuable feedback and since then I have been trainng intensly and striving to come in the absolute best I can. 3 weeks ago, I particpated in the INBF Natural Atlantic Coast in High Point, NC. I was able to take away the womens masters, lightweight and the overall title, earning me a place as a professional with the WNBF.

I only got into competitive bodybuilding after I lost one of my very closest friends to breast cancer. She inspired me to never give up on a dream and to always take care of myself and my health. Before she became ill, it was her dream to become a physique competitor, but she was never able to realize that dream. In so many ways she is my motivator and inspiration - my angel who propels me forward on this journey.

I love everything bodybuilding. The discipline, the challenge, the networking with others but mostly the sense of accomplishment to see your hard work pay-off. It is such a personal achievment, in so many aspects. As the big event draws near in just a couple of short weeks, I will treasure this experience and savor every moment. I have challenged myself; physically and mentally in ways I never believed were possible and I know that no matter the outcome on November 14th, I will stand proud of my personal achievements.

Update:

Since I sent in my bio, I went on to compete at the Yorton Pro -Worlds in November. It was an overwhelming and humbling experience to be among such elite athletes. There were over 240 competitors over the 2 day event - amateurs and professionals. There were 16 professional women in the bodybuilding arena. I accomlished what I set out to do, which was to come in at my all time best condition. It was an amazing, unforgetable experience and I was proud to walk away with a 5th place medal among the lightweight pros.

My plans for 2010 include judging a couple of natural shows with 2 planned so far this year. I will also be working with the promotors to learn more of what is involved in promoting a natural event. I am dabbling in power lifting this year, and plan to rejoin the competition circuit in 2011.

In the meantime, I have started a blogsite, a place where I have posted brief articles about training, nutrition and healthy recipes. please check it out at http://www.shariduncan.com
