1. Have you always been in shape? I have always been on the thin side but I would not consider that as being in shape as I was unfit and underweight. 2. How did you get started in physique competitions? One day I picked up a muscle magazine and noticed a very beautiful fitness model on the cover who was incredibly fit but very feminine at the same time. At that point I decided I would join a gym and my life was changed forever. 3. Describe your training philosophy: My training philosophy is simple, hard work, dedication and discipline. I believe that to be the best you have to push your limits so I constantly challenge myself in the gym.
4. What are your favorite exercises? I love working my glutes and quads so I have to go with barbell squats and lunges as my favorite exercises. 5. What is your diet like in the off season? During my off season my diet is not as strict so I do allow myself some treats here and there in moderation, however I stick to a pretty clean diet as I use this time to train hard in the gym. Keeping a clean, healthy diet helps me get the most out of my hard workouts and keeps me focused. 6. Describe your diet during contest prep: Very strict. Absolutely no cheating. I keep a journal of everything I eat. My diet is very basic and it consists only of fish, chicken, oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potatoes, some vegetables, some fruit, egg whites and supplements. As the competition gets closer the diet gets even more strict. 7. What supplements have worked for you? I have taken Optimum Nutrition 100% Natural Whey Protein which I feel has worked well for me. 8. What advice would you give to aspiring athletes? Follow your dreams and goals. Always push yourself to be the best! NEVER QUIT! Only the best reach the top and to be the best you have to be dedicated and stay motivated. 9. What have you learned about yourself as a physique competitor? I have learned that when I put my mind and soul into something I can achieve it. I have never put more effort into anything as I have into this. This is what I love to do! I have just competed in my first competition where I placed 1st and won the Overall title and it felt amazing! 10. What are your plans for the future? I plan to continue competing and keep improving my physique. I hope to compete against the best and hopefully one day be one of the best in figure! Vanessa Campbell
