Web Based Communities:
A Feasibility Study for the Natural bodybuilding Community

DEFINITION OF TERMS:
Following are terms that appear throughout this study.
Internet Terms:

Avatar: A small graphic (usually 80 x 80 pixels) used to convey the identity of the user on a forum or message board.

Blog: Short for Web Log, a blog is a personal online journal which is accessible to the public.

Bulletin Board: An electronic forum that hosts posted messages and articles related to a common subject.

Chat Room: An online meeting space where users can exchange messages (chat) in real time.
-
Forum: An online discussion group where participants with common interests can exchange open messages.

Indexing / Re-indexing the web: A search of the internet by a search engine to create a database of words in each document.

Keyword: A word used by a search engine in a search for relevant web pages.

Newsgroup: An electronic bulletin board on USENET where users can post messages or articles for other members to read.

Search Engine: Software that enables users to search the Internet using keywords.

Thread: A series of messages posted as replies to the initial post in an online discussion.

USENET: A group of computers that exchange network news information. Usenet is a world-wide network of discussion groups or news groups.

Virtual: Not physical. Created, simulated, or carried on by means of a computer or computer network

Web Based Community: A computer facilitated medium of interaction to connect people in different locations based on a common interest or need.

Weblog: An online journal

Wiki: Similar to a Blog, with the exception that anyone can add, edit, or modify the content of the wiki.
Bodybuilding Terms:

Bodybuilder: Bodybuilding is the sport of developing muscle fibers through the combination of weight training, increased caloric intake, and rest. Competitive bodybuilders display their physiques to a panel of judges, who assign points.

Enhanced Athlete: An athlete of any sporting pursuit, who engages in the use of performance enhancing drugs.
3. IFBB: International Federation of Bodybuilders. The largest professional bodybuilding federation in the world.

Natural Athlete: An athlete of any sporting pursuit, who seeks to advance in their sport by natural means and who does not engage in the use of performance enhancing drugs.

NPC: National Physique Committee. An affiliate of the IFBB which sanctions amateur level physique competitions.
